Group Counseling

Group therapy can be very powerful and helpful for those who participate in it. I arrange groups as necessary, based on clients' presenting issues and needs. Irving Yalom described eleven therapeutic factors that are unique to group work and help facilitate change in ways that individual therapy cannot. These factors are: the instillation of hope, universality, imparting information, altruism, the corrective recapitulation of the primary family group, development of socializing techniques, imitative behavior, interpersonal learning, group cohesiveness, catharsis and existential factors.
